First Bavarians' - Konig Regt.

And so the latest project gets going, with the 1st Regiment, Line; Der Konig Regt.

24 models as will be standard for my Bavarians, mainly as it scales to the Austrians I already have.

For anyone who doesn't know these are the Warrior Miniatures figures, and for the price, what more can you ask for?!  Delightful little casts.

To paraphrase an aphorism, 'opinions on Bavarian uniforms colours are like assholes; everyone's got one'.  Shades seem to go from marginally lighter than French Indigo, to Sky Blue, with all shades in-between.  One of the likely historical reasons for this is the absence of chemical dyes until the mid 19th century, hence all notions of fixed uniform colours are pretty much moot prior to that point.  Dyes would vary with mix, composition, period of soak, drying methodologies, and other factors; not to mention wear and tear.  In the end I opted for something roughly of this intermediate shade:

Light enough they won't look like French at a distance, but more representative of faded shades than parade ground - high saturation - colours.

By the way, did I say how nice these models look?

So that's one of the initial seven infantry units slated for creation finished.  What next I wonder?
