I've been watching a lot of painting tutorials of late, but I do wonder the reality of their implementation amongst mortal gamers? Please help sate my curiosity by responding to my little poll:
One question to change nobody's life!
I have in mind I'll write something in relation to this subject and the poll in due course. I know for a fact I operate on a very spartan paint set up compared to most gamers and painters, yet I think I get decent results, so it will be interesting to see what develops of this....

I think you learn to paint figures with practice over time. You need to develop your own painting style that suits you. Not sure that tutorials help that much and maybe have an adverse effect when people cannot manage to get the same results immediately.
ReplyDeleteThe three month long Analogue thing interests me not in the least. It all seems to be look I have painted 400 figures this week etc. After it’s over many participants seem to take months off from painting anything, so what is the point?
Not certain what your question is ? I m certainly not a tutorial watcher...find your own style and stick to it consistency it important......and I use plenty of stain which isn’t everybodies cup of tea
ReplyDeleteI work in Stats Analysis, you can't analyse what you don't have data on! So I'm doing some primary research. It is not about me picking or dictating an approach. So far the results are interesting, not least for the volume of comments to the effect that they don't have one approach, or like to pigeonhole themselves; which is admirable....
DeleteNumber of colours totally depends on the figure, including washes and dry brush up to 16 plus varnish, sometimes several coats of varnish. Lowest ever 2 plus wash and varnish for a big tentacle thing.
ReplyDeletePainting style comes with time; my own lies between layering and block, wash and highlight.
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on what you are painting, why you are painting it and how it will be use. There is little point on spending hours on a single figure that will be in the middle of a large phalanx if all the others are only blocked in flat colours.
Go with what suits you best and adapt and learn as you go. Mimiature painting is a journey of discovery.
Cheers, Ross
